Reflections of a Developer

If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. This collection of posts is my attempt at giving back.

Intro and Inspiration

by Karim Joseph, Jr.

While I have always wanted to give back to the development community, contributing to open source projects seems a daunting task. I can’t say I know enough to write a book just yet either. Given my natural curiosity, a background in education, and the desire to share, I figured what better way than a blog.

A great deal of inspiration came from Alvin Alexander. Many kudos to that guy. His “cookbook” style page has been an endless source of answers for me. Interestingly, he lives in a neighboring city. Probably crossed paths with him a few times without knowing it 🤔.

Another is my old boss Aaron Dix at Gloo and CEO/Owner at BettrData. As a boss, he truly cultivated an environment of growth. As a part of his team, it was always aparent that being right wasn’t as important as getting it right. Mistakes were made, lessons were learned, things were fixed, and we’re both all the wiser for having at least tried.

In all, my goal here is to foster the ideas of “giving it a go” and “reflective practice”. Many things written here may not be right, but hopefully we’ll all learn something along the way.
